How does spaced repetition actually work here?

Your child sees a card again just before they’d forget it. Grade “Got it” and the gap grows (a day, then six days, then weeks); grade “Tricky” and it shrinks to tomorrow. Unlike most apps, every button shows its real return date before it’s pressed — the schedule is never a black box.

Isn’t this just Anki with extra steps?

The memory science is the same family — spaced repetition works and we use it. What Anki doesn’t have: cards pinned to the KS3 curriculum map with a visible prerequisite chain, professor-checked content, the Shared Sky community, a “Study with the professor” hand-off on every card, and intervals shown honestly up front instead of hidden in an algorithm.

What is the Shared Sky, and is it safe?

It’s the shared layer where students publish finished cards for others to browse and adopt. Every published card passes professor review first, and bylines are limited by design to a first name, a year band and the professor it was made with — no surnames, schools, photos, or messaging of any kind.

Which subjects have cards today?

Honestly: three finished canonical decks — Maths (Fractions, with Professor Pi), Chemistry (Particles and states of matter, with Professor Curie) and Biology (Cells and organisation, with Professor Darwin). The system is built for every KS3 subject; new decks join as they pass professor review.

Can my child make their own cards?

Yes — writing a card is part of tutoring, and it’s one of the best-evidenced ways to learn. Cards your child makes join their own review orbit, and they can choose to publish their best ones to the Shared Sky. Named, themed revision packs are next on the roadmap (see above — not live yet).

How does this fit with the tutoring subscription?

Flashcards are part of the AI Tutors subscription, not a separate purchase. Cards come out of tutoring sessions with the professors, reviews feed back into what the tutor works on next, and any card can hand your child straight into a chat with its professor — it’s the same curriculum map end to end.
