The Shared Sky
How a child shares a card or a revision pack with other pupils, the human check every card passes first, what others can see, and how to take a card down.
On this page
The Shared Sky is a pool of cards that pupils have chosen to share. Other children can browse it, adopt a card into their own collection, or study it with a professor. Your child reaches it from My Flashcards → Browse the Shared Sky.
What other children see
A shared card shows:
- the card itself;
- your child's first name and year group, such as "Maya · Y8";
- the professor it was made with, if a professor wrote it.
It never shows a surname, a school, a photo or any way to contact your child or your family.
Every card is checked by a person
When your child shares a card it is sent for review. It does not appear to anyone else until a member of our team has read and approved it. There is no automatic route by which a card goes live.
Two more safeguards apply before a card can even be sent:
- A card your child wrote themselves must first be checked by a professor in a session. Until then the share button explains that they should ask their professor to look at it.
- Unfinished drafts and cards that have been put away cannot be shared.
Any child can report a shared card. A reported card is hidden straight away while we look at it.
Sharing a card
On any card in their own decks your child taps ✦ Share. The page shows exactly how their name will appear, and that the card is checked before it appears and can be taken down at any time. Then Publish to the Shared Sky sends it for review.
What is shared is a copy as the card stood at that moment. Editing or removing the original later does not change the shared copy.
Revision packs
A revision pack is a set of up to twenty of your child's own cards on one subject, with a name they give it. Another pupil can adopt the whole pack in one tap. Every card in a pack is read by a person before the pack goes up. Cards your child adopted from the Atlas or from other pupils cannot go into a pack.
Taking a card down
- Your child can unpublish their own card at any time.
- You can unpublish it from your dashboard: your child's Flashcards card lists each shared card with an Unpublish button.
Once unpublished, other children no longer see it. Copies that other children had already adopted stay with them.
Celebrations, not points
Heddy celebrates a child's first published card, and again if one of their cards is featured. Sharing does not earn Heddy points, so there is no reward for sharing as much as possible.
Common questions
Can I stop my child sharing at all? There is no setting that switches sharing off in advance. Every card is read by a person before it is visible, and you can take down anything your child has shared from your dashboard.
Does adopting a shared card need a subject seat? No. See what needs a subject seat.
