One Heddy, everywhere

If you've spent any time on aitutors.me, you'll have noticed the same snowy owl everywhere — welcoming you on the website, celebrating quietly when your child masters a card, wearing whatever your child has dressed her in. And if you follow us elsewhere, you'll see her in our pictures and short videos too.

She's always the same owl. That's deliberate, and this page explains how we manage it.

Heddy has a fixed identity

Heddy isn't redrawn from scratch each time. She has a small set of locked features that never change, whatever she's doing:

• Her eyes are deliberately uneven — the left one is noticeably bigger than the right. It's her signature look.
• A small amber diamond beak — never a sharp, realistic one.
• The green star badge on her belly, and the little tuft on her head.
• A fixed palette: warm cream, deep ink blue, amber, and one green — no other colours.

Everything else — the pose, the scene, the wardrobe, even whether she's drawn flat (as in the app) or in a soft storybook style (as in our posts) — is allowed to change. Her identity is not.

The same rules protect the tone

The identity rules aren't only visual. Heddy in a picture follows the same promises Heddy keeps on the website:

• She never teaches. In our art she welcomes, celebrates, lights the way, and hands things over — the professors do the teaching, so you'll never see her with a whiteboard and a pointer.
• Celebrations are quiet. One warm moment, a small hop, at most a sparkle or three — never fireworks and confetti. That's the same philosophy as the Heddy points system: steady encouragement, not a slot machine.
• She never appears in distressing scenes. Serious topics are handled by people, not mascots.

Where the pictures come from

Our illustrations and short videos are made with AI image tools — but not freestyle. Every picture is generated against Heddy's locked identity and a frozen set of reference artwork, then checked feature-by-feature (are the eyes uneven the right way? is the beak a diamond? is the badge green?) before it's used. Anything off-model is fixed or thrown away.

The rewards your child collects in the My Heddy room — the hats, scarves, little friends and night skies — are drawn under exactly the same rules, which is why the owl on our posts and the owl your child dresses up are recognisably one character.

The toolkit is public (the character isn't)

For the curious: the toolkit we use — the identity rules, the reference artwork, and the checking process — is published openly as the heddy-ip skill in our plugin repository, where it works with several AI coding assistants. Publishing it keeps us honest: anyone can read exactly what our art is and isn't allowed to do.

One boundary to be clear about: Heddy herself is not open-source. The toolkit is published so that work done for aitutors.me stays consistent — the character, her design, and the reference artwork remain ours, and they're not licensed for use in other products.

Why it matters for your family

A character who is always the same is a small promise kept, over and over. Children notice — the owl who celebrated their first flashcard is the same owl on the poster, the same owl in the winter hat. Consistency is what makes her feel like someone rather than decoration, and it's the same care we try to bring to everything else the tutors do.
