The Charge of the Light Brigade (Alfred Lord Tennyson)

你需要知道的

• The poem recalls the charge at the Battle of Balaclava, when an order was confused and the Light Brigade rode into heavy Russian guns.
• Tennyson wrote it as Poet Laureate; it is a ballad with the refrain 'six hundred'.
• The falling dactylic rhythm echoes the fallen soldiers, and the break in metre at 'Someone had blundered' highlights the leaders' mistake.
• Biblical echoes such as the 'valley of Death' make the soldiers' courage seem almost sacred.
