A balanced diet
A balanced dietFree4:34Heddy Score 3 of 7, below the standard
What you need to know
- A balanced diet supplies carbohydrate, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals and water in suitable amounts.
- Carbohydrate is the main energy source, protein provides amino acids for growth and repair, and fats are used in membranes and as insulation.
- Vitamins and minerals are needed only in small amounts, and a shortage causes illness.
- Water is needed for the body's chemistry, and the balance of foods may change with age or activity.
