The five themes, and the question each one raises for you
Agency. Who is actually making the decisions in an AI-mediated learning interaction — the child, the tool, or some negotiated space between them? The question for you: when your child uses an AI tool, are they still deciding what to try next, or is the tool deciding for them?
Cognition. What does offloading mental work to AI do to the underlying thinking skills that work was building? Assessment. If AI can write an essay, solve a problem, or generate a plausible answer, what is a grade, a mark, or a qualification actually certifying any more? This is the theme most parents haven't fully sat with, and it's arguably the most urgent — we look at it directly in AI and academic integrity: UNESCO's stance.
Governance. Who decides how AI gets deployed in education, at what scale, with what accountability — the same territory covered by the ministerial statement's "deliberative governance" pillar.
