What you need to know

  • Speed is the distance travelled divided by the time taken.
  • A top sprinter runs at about 10 m/s, much slower than a racing car at over 100 m/s.
  • To compare speeds, put them in the same units; convert km/h to m/s by multiplying by 1000 and dividing by 3600.
  • The same equation can be rearranged to find distance (speed × time) or time (distance ÷ speed).

In this clip

Runs 2:55, from 0:06 to 3:01 of the full video.
