What you need to know
- A sample is a smaller group drawn from a population so you can learn about the whole group without measuring everyone.
- In a random sample, every member has an equal chance of being chosen.
- A stratified sample takes people from each subgroup so those groups are represented.
- A systematic sample selects at a regular interval.
- The sample can still differ from the population, and that difference is sampling error.
