Competition & interdependence
Competition & interdependenceFree2:21Heddy Score 3 of 7, below the standard
What you need to know
- Food, mates, light and shelter are limited in every ecosystem, so organisms compete for them.
- Animals of the same species compete for food, shelter and mates, as when hermit crabs fight over a bigger shell.
- Organisms can be in competition without fighting, simply by eating the same limited food.
- Different species also compete, such as surgeonfish and parrotfish feeding on the same coral.
